I'm a needle hater - but I love this meter! 5 by .. M. Winblood (El Paso, Tejas)
I am new to testing my blood glucose and I have no experience by which to comment regarding the accuracy of the meter as another reviewer has done.

Nonetheless, as I am an avid needle-hater (I can't even watch when I am recieving an injection or having blood drawn from a vein), I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised with the lancet device that accompanies this meter. It is so easy to use and it is virtually painless when used on the side of the finger (I haven't tried anywhere else). It took me 3-4 times before I was able to consistently apply the sample to the strip but that was my problem and it had nothing to do with the meter, strip, or lancet.

I thought I would loathe checking my blood glucose but I don't. I actually look forward to testing to see if I am keeping my numbers in check. For this reason, I feel that I will be much more attentive to my health maintenance.

Another nice feature: You can upload the data from your meter after you have downloaded the manufacturer's free software, but you must purchase an extra cable to do so. (I do not know if you can purchase a generic cable for this purpose, but the meter manufacturer's current price is $30). I have not attempted to use the software yet but I am glad to know that I can keep track of my data beyond 30 days if I wish.

I hope this information helps you to make your choice.

Inaccurate - and that's really bad 1 by .. Bob (Littleton, CO United States)
One Touch Ultra is supposed to be the great solution to the problem of sore fingers. You can draw blood from the forearm, thus saving your fingers. B.B. King even tells us so, and his profession is professional musician and guitarist.

Fine.

None of this matters, though, if the unit isn't accurate in its results. One Touch Ultra is not accurate.

Here is what I mean. You can draw three different samples within a minute of each other from the same finger or forearm stick and get three different results that vary by more than 10%. This should not happen. Blood sugar doesn't change that much that quickly. And if you are taking insulin on a sliding scale, basing the amount you inject on your glucometer's result, a 10% variation in insulin can have serious consequences.

I'm giving up on OneTouch and going back to Bayer. It's results were right in line with my A1c tests. One Touch is not.

It would be a good product if only it worked.

WORKS LIKE A CHARM! 5 by .. Christina Packard (Sarasota, FL United States)
Who knew I would be in the market for a Blood Meter? It never crossed my mind that I would soon have my own One Touch Ultra. But, Oh My... things in our life do change.

I first had seen a television advertisement of the One Touch Ultra. I noticed this new gadget was good looking, a nice size, and appeared to work so easily. At first I did not know what it was used for but, then realized it was for checking sugar levels in the blood, in both the finger area or on the arm. What a nice option for doing something which I thought was painful.

Because of that commercial, only weeks later I was asked to choose what blood testing meter I would like. I remembered how easy it was to use and how informative the company was in explaining what I saw. Since then I have found friends who "Love" their One Touch Ultra meter. I have to say I agree.

The meter comes in a small material zipper case. This case holds the meter and the bottle of test strips on the left side. The right side has a zippered mesh pouch, which holds the testing solution, and extra lancets. On the back of the case it has a Velcroed pocket. I use the pocket for used strips and lancets until I can dispose of them properly. There also is a card to carry in the case, with quick instructions on how to use the meter, or if error messages should appear.

One Touch Ultra provides a 24 hours a day for 7 days a week, a 800 phone number for help. This service is provided to always be there to help you. I have used this free service when I thought I had done something wrong. The operator was so patient and walked me through my confusion until I was completely confident in what I was doing.

Oh, as to the pain, there really isn't any! When using the lancet you have 9 settings of how hard you want the lancet to prick your finger. I get excellent results on the lightest setting, and most times it is compared to touching a sand sticker. And best of all the results are given in 5 seconds.

I have not tried using the location of my arm. I have heard that possibly the arm area is not a good blood count indicator. It is so quick and easy to use my One Touch Ultra on my finger tips that I do not even think of moving to an arm, but it is nice to know that I do have that option.

I really wish I never had to have a blood meter, but I sure am glad I choose One Touch Ultra. Managing my sugar is something I now ..want.. to do, because using this new tool is so easy to use. Thank Heaven for new technology!
